Designed by Vienna, after 1800
Executed by Franz Würth
Marked Austro-Hungarian wheel hallmark for 13 lot silver, barely legible date 1813 (8) or 1823 (8), partial maker’s mark in a rectangle F. W.
Dimensions H 38.5 cm, weight approx. 1.440 g
Material silver, hammered base and body, finely chased, decorated with brazed tendrils and bead and reel motifs, manubrium with ram’s head on the end, decorated with a winged angel figure at the top, both cast, excellent craftsmanship, mint condition
Literature W. Neuwirth, Wiener Silber, 1781–1866, Namens- und Firmenpunzen, Vienna, 2002, p. 161, comp. maker’s mark Franz Würth; W. Neuwirth, Wiener Gold- und Silberschmiede-Punzen, Neuwirth Markenlexikon 5, Vienna, 1996, p.122

Unfortunately, both extant marks are mis-struck so that a definite dating is no longer possible. The quality of the piece together with the five-point crown indicate courtly origins.

We would like to thank Mrs Sonja Reisch for her kind help in identifying the maker’s mark.
