Koloman Moser conceived his painting "Battle of the Titans II", as a tribute to Peter Paul Ruben’s "Battle of the Amazons", 1615-1618, and Hans Canon’s "The Cycle of Life", 1884/85, which obviously left a lasting impression on him at the Vienna Kunsthistorisches Museum (museum of fine arts)
There is proof of several figure studies for this painting performed in pencil or charcoal (Dorotheum Vienna, Moderne Graphik/modern graphics, 25 June 2011, no. 180; Dorotheum Vienna, Sammlung Lill/collection Lill, 31 May 2005, no. 20; Dorotheum Vienna, Moderne/modern art, 28 February 2007, no. 1, no. 2; Dorotheum Vienna, Klassische Moderne/classical modern art, 29 May 2007, no. 17).
