1864 – Vienna – 1941
Josef Engelhart was an Austrian painter, sculptor, and graphic artist in Vienna. From the Vienna Technical University, he went to Munich to the academy of Löfftz and Herterich. He was one of the founders of the Vienna Secession in 1897. From 1903 onwards, he turned to sculpture and travelled to Greece and Egypt. He started out with the depiction of Viennese folk scenes and always returned to this. Besides paintings, he brought home lots of pictures and sketches from all trips and created many graphic works using all techniques.
