Vöcklabruck 1861 – 1908 Dresden
Emilie Mediz-Pelikan was born on 2 December 1861 in Vöcklabruck, Upper Austria, and studied in Vienna under Zimmermann. The latter exercised considerable influence on her and she followed him when he went to Salzburg at the beginning of the 1880s, and also when he took up a post in Munich in 1885. Apart from a few trips she made, she remained with him until his death in 1888. In 1888/89, she got to know the young painter Karl Mediz. In 1891, the two got married. Around the turn of the century, the couple succeeded in making a breakthrough. Mediz-Pelikan was mentioned in the contemporary reviews alongside Leibl, Uhde, Thoma and Klinger.
