Alexander Rothaug was an Austrian painter and illustrator. From 1885 onwards, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under August Eisenmenger, Christian Gripenkerl and Franz Rumpler. Rothaug worked as an illustrator for the magazine Die fliegenden Blätter and also designed stage curtains for theatres in Frankfurt am Main, Graz, Nuremberg and Vienna. His paintings also adorn the ceiling of the Kurhaus of Merano. In 1910, Rothaug became a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus.
