Timisoara (Romania) 1878 – 1937 Klosterneuburg (near Vienna)
Max Kahrer was a landscape painter. He studied for four years under Franz Rumpler at the Vienna Academy and was active during the years 1913–1914 in Munich and later in Klosterneuburg. It was there that he founded the artists’ association. Initially he painted with very powerful and bright colours. Later he developed towards atmospherically cool landscapes steeped in solitude showing high mountains and the banks of lakes and rivers. (See also catalogue no. 49 from our autumn catalogue 2015). From 1905 to 1906 he was a member of the Hagebund.
